Our turfing process starts with full ground preparation. We excavate to the correct depth, remove all weeds and debris, and assess the existing soil. Where the soil is poor — which is common across much of Somerset, particularly on sites with heavy clay or residual rubble — we improve it with topsoil and sharp sand to create a friable, free-draining growing medium. We then rotovate and level the area carefully, creating a firm but not compacted surface with accurate falls to prevent pooling.

Once the ground preparation is complete, turf is laid immediately to prevent the prepared surface from drying out. We butt the rolls tightly, stagger the joints in a brick-bond pattern, and work from boards to avoid compacting the freshly laid surface. After laying, we water the turf in thoroughly and provide clear aftercare advice on watering and mowing schedules to ensure strong establishment.
